Pinal County builders offering new residents more ways to go green

Local homebuilders are utilizing solar power and other green technologies to lower energy costs and keep homes cooler. Communities in San Tan Valley and Florence have utilized high-efficiency solar power systems and state-of-the-art homebuilding materials to give potential buyers a green option.

Mike Fraley, spokesperson for Shea Homes, said the environmentally sound technology in place at their Encanterra community in San Tan Valley is part of a serious effort to join the green movement. “We’re not just labeling it green,” Fraley said, “We have done things to really enhance the performance of the homes from a design perspective.”

The Encanterra homes are powered through a three-kilowatt solar power generation system with panels that are seamlessly integrated onto the roof. “Driving by, you’re not going to really notice that we have solar roof systems because it fits the architecture,” he said. The solar power comes standard with Shea’s Ultra-Green package homes, which are priced between the mid-$100,000s up to $350,000."
